Mr Muhammad Farrukh Irfan Khan is the Chairman of United Trademark and Patent Services and has nearly forty years of experience in intellectual property law. He is a distinguished expert in brand enforcement and contentious matters within the MENA region, and his work has been widely featured in leading international legal publications.
Prior to assuming his current role, Mr Khan served for almost ten years as a Judge of the Lahore High Court, where he adjudicated more than 29,000 cases covering constitutional and administrative law, corporate and commercial law, intellectual property, labour and industrial relations, land and property matters, as well as a broad range of civil and criminal disputes. Following his retirement from the judiciary, he resumed legal practice as an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and continues to play an active role in complex commercial and intellectual property matters.
Mr Khan has also acted as sole arbitrator and panel arbitrator in a number of high-profile domestic and international commercial arbitrations. Prior to his elevation to the bench, he served as Chairman and Managing Partner of United Trademark and Patent Services and was widely recognised as a leading intellectual property practitioner.
He is a recognised speaker and author on global intellectual property law and has contributed to the work of the International Trademark Association (INTA), Pharmaceutical Trade Marks Group (PTMG), Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA), MARQUES – The European Association of Trade Mark Owners, the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He has previously served on the Board of Directors of INTA and was the first South Asian and only Pakistani to hold this position.
In addition to his practice, Mr Khan has taught intellectual property law as a visiting professor at several universities and remains actively involved in professional education and capacity building. He travels extensively across the MENA region to oversee operations and advise clients on strategic intellectual property, enforcement and dispute-resolution matters.
Beyond his professional work, Mr Khan has been engaged in public service and community leadership. He serves as the Board of Governors of WWF Pakistan, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, and the Independent Monitoring Association for Child Labour (IMAC). He is the Chairman of Global Forum for Sports and Environment (Pakistan Chapter) and the Gandhara Art & Culture Association (GACA). He also serves as Member of the Board of Trustees of Pakistan School Dubai and Amin Maktab, an organisation dedicated to the rehabilitation and inclusion of differently abled persons.
